Akçakoca Central Mosque is in the town centre, on Cumhuriyet Square. Its foundations were laid in 1989 and it opened for worship in 2004. The architect was Ergün Subaşı.
With its octagonal roof inspired by a Seljuk imperial tent, it is known as the only example of this architecture in Turkey. The dome is 31 m high and the minaret 58 m. 32 tonnes of copper were used on the dome, and the interior is lit by stained glass.

The mosque was built on a plot that used to be a market; there are still shops on its ground floor. The harbour and the seafront are within walking distance.
Before you go
