The Hemşin village mosque is in Hemşin village, south-west of Akçakoca centre. According to the records of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, it was built in 1877 by Hemshin people who came from Artvin after the Russo-Turkish War. Some sources give 1834 as the construction date.

The ground floor is stone and the upper floor is built with the çantı technique, in which logs are interlocked without nails. Its wooden minaret, carved ceiling, mihrab and minbar are fine examples of Black Sea wooden architecture.

The mosque is still in use for worship; its acoustics are praised during the Ramadan tarawih prayers. It is said that the tallest tree in the forest was carried to the village for its minaret to the sound of the tulum bagpipe and horon dancing.
